Dear friends and family,
The folks at Coast Guard Headquarters called yesterday with some exciting news: the Lanz family is headed to Juneau, Alaska! After graduation Graham will be assigned as a judge advocate in the 17th District Legal Office, providing legal services to Coast Guard units across America's Last Frontier. The assignment is for 4 years and looks to provide some great career opportunities, including some fascinating issues related to the arctic. Jenn has already applied for some teaching positions at the University of Alaska Southeast. Adelaide and Cora just found out about the move this morning and are thrilled about the prospect of seeing glaciers, bears, whales, Balto's old stomping grounds, and all of the other natural beauty Alaska has to offer.
We will move sometime in the summer, after Shaker schools let out (June 12) but before Juneau schools start (August 19). Graham will fly back to the lower 48 for the Ohio Bar Exam at the end of July, followed by Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island, August 4-October 10. We don't have a house picked out yet, but we are hoping to find a place with a guest room so you can all come and visit.
It will certainly be a bit harder to travel to see you all over the next four years, but we are going to do our very best to keep in touch. If you haven't visited us in Cleveland yet and want to, or you have stayed with us and want to make a repeat visit, we would love to host you one last time before hitching up our dog sled.
Cleveland has always been "home," and our hope is that one day we will return. But "home" is wherever our family goes, and our family goes wherever the "needs of the Service" take us. So buy your stock in Sorel boots and Land's End long underwear now!
Sincerely,
Jenn, Graham, Adelaide, and Cora
